HOW IS YOUR CONFESSION TODAY?

By John Ollis

If there is one thing I have learnt over the years is that when it comes to truth/doctrine, we must hold that truth in balance keeping in mind all the Word of God teaches. It is so easy to take a Scripture out of context and that can not only lead to extremes but literally heresy.

Twenty or more years ago there came a strong emphasis on what was called “FAITH CONFESSION” in the Pentecostal Movement, which many called THE BLAB IT AND GRAD IT OR CONFESS & POSSESS IT MOVEMENT.

Now, confession is an important truth, Paul writing to Timothy in 1 Tim. 6:1 NKJV Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the GOOD CONFESSION in the presence of many witnesses. So there is a GOOD CONFESSION, we must learn to make it our lifestyle .

Paul writing in Romans 10 :8-9 NKJV says “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

That as a result of receiving the “incorruptible: seed of the Word and believe and respond in your heart, and CONFESS WITH YOUR MOUTH, you will be saved. This is an essential good confession.

There is no doubt that what comes out of our mouth, must LINE UP WITH THE WORD OF GOD, let us learn to be positive and faith believing, not make our statements/judgements on what we see and hear.

I wrote recently mentioning 1 John 4:4 NKJV You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. I unashamedly confess this verse using it as a Sword of the Spirit (Rhema Word) against the believer’s common enemy.

I refuse to make excuses for any sins and shortcomings in my life, for as Paul tells us in Rom. 8:37 NKJV that as part of my inheritance now as a Believer, I can confess and believe “Yet in all these things we are MORE THAN CONQUERERS through Him who loved us”.

There is a verse that many people confess and that is Phil. 4:13 NKJV I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The AMP.N.T. expresses it this way I have strength for all things in Christ Who empowers me [I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him Who infuses inner strength into me; I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency].

MESSAGE Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.

I cannot do “all things” I can’t fly, for example, or many other things humanly speaking, but when it comes to my walk with the Lord, and my defence against our common enemy I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STREGTHENS ME HALLELUJAH.

Let me conclude this blog by emphasizing two important aspects of truth, we must be men and women of the Word of God, spending quality time (daily) reading and meditating on the Word, and letting the “information become revelation”, letting the Logos (written Word) become the Rhema (when the Holy Spirit quickens the Word to us, and it becomes a personal revelation) keeping in mind that what you think you receive lines up and is in accord with the whole of the Word of God.

Secondly, I have come to love Isaiah 66:22 NLT “At the right time, I, the Lord, will make it happen.” Our Sovereign God knows when it is the RIGHT TIME, and His time is always PERFECT. I was mentioning this verse to a dear friend and scholar today, and he reminded me, of the concluding verses of Hebrews 11 after the long list of the heroes of Faith , we read, from verse 35 -39 NKJV But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half, and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
All these people earned a good reputation because of their faith, yet none of them received all that God had promised.

Let us continue to confess the Word of God, plus being committed to God’s timing, and His Sovereign Will in our lives AMEN.
