SURELY IT IS TIME TO PRAY

By John Ollis

Four days ago, I wrote a blog entitled “OUR GOD WANTS TO ANSWER OUR PRAYERS” we are so glad the our God is a “prayer hearing and prayer answering God” and as James reminds us “we have not because we ask not”. I guess we usually have no problem in praying for the things that we want or need, and the Lord sure “wants to meet all our needs according to His riches in Glory” but often when it comes to Intercession and spiritual warfare we don’t seem to be as concerned and active as we should be.

At the end of last year or very early in 2021 I wrote some blogs about the need to pray much about the Pandemic that has now gripped the world for so long. I think some of us think it is in the “too hard basket” or we simply don’t know how to pray about it.

On top of the Pandemic, the political situation in many nations is quite out of hand and there are regular rumours of wars, and massive floods and earthquakes and other natural disasters like bush fires yet we are not that concerned.

I am so glad to write today that there appears to be a growing desire and recognition in many places that it is time to pray, and I am so pleased about that.

I am reminded today of the verse in Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.

N.L.T, I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.

Here the Lord describes prayer as “making a wall” (standing in the gap) against the onslaught of evil. Sadly, the lord could not find anyone.

I am so thankful the Lord is sure finding people in many nations who are ready to “build a wall” as in reality prayer is the only answer to the predicament we are in at this time. In a sense vaccines are not the answer (in the short term) as there will sure be further variants that could run through the population. James reminds us in James 5:16 NKJV The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

N.L.T. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

MESSAGE The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with.

In relation to the day and hour in which we live in the midst of the pandemic and political upheaval and natural disasters HOW DO WE PRAY ???????

As we believe our God is Sovereign, He is not surprised at what is happening at this time, He knew even in eternity past, so He has permitted it for a purpose, what that purpose is we may never know, except as we remind ourselves often quoting Rom. 8:28 NKJV And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

So how do we pray ??? Rom. 8:26-27 NKJV Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Sime of my friends think I write about “speaking and praying in unknown tongues” too often. Many Theologians believe there are various forms of “tongues”. The Pentecostals majored in the past on the “public” use of tongues, in the form of a short message that required The gift of Interpretation, then there is the personal use of praying in tongues, WHICH CAN BE USED FOR MANY REASONS (which I may write about soon) but in the context of this blog let me just emphasise the place of INTERCESSION when it comes to praying in unknown tongues and as Paul says in Rom. 8:26-27 NKJV Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. especially when we do not know how to pray, we can use our prayer language, the Holy Spirit knows the mind of God, thus we are are praying in the will if God. With so much that is happening in our world, it is hard to discern what is the will if God, so I want to encourage you, when ever you are faced with a situation you do not have a clear answer too, USE YOUR PRAYER LANGUAGE, and continue to pray until you feel the burden lifts.

Will you stand in the gap for all that is is happening in our world at this time, remember THE EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER OF A RIGHTEOUS MAN/WOMAN AVAILS MUCH AMEN.
