What Does The Word of God Mean To You? (1)
May I ask you a personal question please ? WHAT DOES THE WORD OF GOD MEAN TO YOU ?
My blog today is an essential teaching for every new Believer, as I see it as something that is essential, if a person is to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, sadly so many new Believers are not Biblically Discipled and can miss out on so much that is needed for their daily walk. Thankfully the Holy Spirit often gives us this revelation which should have been taught to the New Believer.
The writer of the Book of Hebrews declares in Hebrews 4:12
NKJV For the word of God is LIVING and POWERFUL, and SHARPER than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
AMP. N.T. For the Word that God SPEAKS is alive and full of POWER [making it ACTIVE, OPERATIVE, ENERGISING, and EFFECTIVE]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.
N.I.V. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
PASSION For we have the living Word of God, which is full of ENERGY, and it pierces more sharply than a two-edged sword. It will even PENETRATE to the very core of our being where soul and spirit, bone and marrow meet! It interprets and reveals the true thoughts and secret motives of our hearts.
N.L.T. For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our INNERMOST THOUGHTS AND DESIRES.
MESSAGE God means what he says. What he says goes. His powerful Word is sharp as a SURGEON’S SCALPEL, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey.
Please spend some time just reading this verse in the various translations.
There has never been a book written or ever will be that is so unique and special. After over 70 years a Christian a regular prayer of mine is “LORD INCREAS MY HUNGER FOR YOUR WORD, PLEASE LET YOUR WORD WORK IN ME”. When a new Believer is Biblically discipled, he is taught that he should spend some time in the Word of God EVERY DAY, and that is systematic, read slowly, and preferably in different translations, and pray “LORD TURN THE LIGHT ON”. I also recommend that you do not open your Bible until you have spent time in prayer and prepared your heart, and see there is no unconfessed sin in your life.
Matt. 4:4 NKJV Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
AMP. N.T. But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.
MESSAGE Jesus answered by quoting Deuteronomy: “It takes more than bread to stay alive. It takes a steady stream of words from God’s mouth.”
PASSION Bread alone will not satisfy,
but true life is found in every word,
which constantly goes forth from God’s mouth.”
The Bible uses the word MEDITATE when it comes to the Word of God, and in simple terms to chew over what you are reading and ask th Lord to open the scripture. Did you know a cow has 4 stomachs, and it eats the grass, it goes into the first stomach, it then regurgitates it and chews again and it goes to the second stomach, this is repeated 4 times and the end result is lovely fresh milk.
The Psalmist especially Kind David often used the word QUICKEN in relation to God’s Word to himself. An old medical term was that a woman has a “QUICKENING” around the 20th week of her pregnancy when she feels the unborm bably moving for the very first time in her womb. May we experience the Word of God being quickened to us EVERY DAY amen.
A modern term often used by Christians is “A LIGHT BULB MOMENT” when the Word of God speaks to them from the Word of God
I sincerely believe sincerely if we prepare our hearts and quietly and slowly meditate on the Word of God daily, we can constantly have LIGHT BULB MOMENTS.
In the N.T. Greek text the writers used 2 words for the Word of God LOGOS which is understood to be the written Word of God and RHEMA which we interpret as God personally speaking to us and producing FAITH in our hearts or to put it another way a REVELATION, thus the reason why we take our reading and meditation slowly and let the Word work in us. Paul expresses it this way in Rom. 10:17 NKJV So then FAITH comes by hearing, and hearing by the word (RHEMA) of God.
